“Come Out of the Closet” Party
take the title literally, not figurately.
it was an opportunity to come together and wear that shirt/dress/shoes that went straight from the shopping bag to closet. add in abundant alcohol, selective snacks, background-but-not-elevator music and happy/pretty/strong personality people and the result is a successful party.
the idea originated from the recent purchase of dresses without a party to wear them. the lesson - always buy the dress. you can just create the party.
2 of my co-workers and I threw a small party for selected people at the office and our friends… We called it the “Come Out of the Closet” party … this was how I explained it in the invite:
“OH! I forgot to tell you about the concept of the party … it’s not what you think it is… Come to the party wearing something (a dress, a jacket, a pair of shoes, whatever!) that you’ve been dying to wear but have not found the occasion to! I’m sure you have a dress in the closet that you bought 5 years ago and haven’t worn or you have a crazy tee that you’ve only worn once! Hence, let your clothes “come out of the closet”!!!!”
The party was a success, boys and girls wore clothes that have been in their closet forever!, and people are already passing on the concept of the party to other family and friends. You can too!
It’s an excuse to party and an excuse to wear something you have worn before … sounds perfect to me!
